This year, I’m participating in the 2026 ALS Canada Revolution Ride in support of people living with ALS and their families.  I am riding for two important people in my life: my dad Jerry Ponikvar and my aunt Marisela.  

Jerry lived with ALS for many years, yet he never allowed the disease to define him. He continued to cheer on his grandchildren, support his children and remain actively involved in the Slovenian community through his volunteer work. Despite the challenges he faced,  my dad never complained, choosing instead to live each day with strength, dignity and unwavering positivity.

Similarly, Marisela, who was recently diagnosed with ALS, continues to face her journey with remarkable courage and optimism. She approaches each day with a positive attitude, never complaining and is heroically embracing the challenges of living with the disease. Her resilience and determination are an inspiration to everyone around her.

Your support will help to: 

• Further scientific progress by investing in the national ALS Canada Research Program, which funds the most promising ALS research. There’s been more progress made in ALS research in the last five years than over the last century – we need to keep building on this momentum.
• Create a better day-to-day reality for people and families living with ALS by providing community-based support throughout Ontario.
